Super Bowl XLII will be the 42nd annual edition of the Super Bowl in American football,
and the 38th annual championship game of the modern-era, post-1970 merger
National Football League (NFL). The game is scheduled to be played following
the 2007 regular season on February 3, 2008 at University of Phoenix Stadium in
Glendale, Arizona. This will be the second time that the Phoenix, Arizona, metropolitan
area will host a Super Bowl game; Super Bowl XXX in January 1996 was
played in Tempe's Sun Devil Stadium. |

This will be the second Super Bowl played in a retractable-roof stadium (designed
by Peter Eisenman and HOK Sport). During the regular season, the home team decides
90 minutes before kickoff if the roof would be open or closed, and an open
roof must remain open unless weather conditions get worse. However, as a neutral
site, the NFL controls the option to open or close without any restrictions.
The first time this was employed in Super Bowl XXXVIII at Reliant Stadium; the
roof was open for pregame and halftime shows and closed during the game. This will be the first time a Super Bowl is played on a retractable natural-grass field surface, as the University of Phoenix Stadium removable surface is unique for American sports venues. |
Visit Spike at the NFL experience built by the Home Depot as he celebrates the final
leg of his 42 stop Game Ball Road Trip! Since February 2007, Spike has
traveled throughout Arizona, stopping at 42 various cities and towns and presenting
them with an official Super Bowl XLII game ball. He will cap off his
year long road trip across Arizona by helping with the grand opening of NFL
Experience built by the Home Depot, Super Bowl XLII's interactive football theme
park. On Saturday, January 26th, join Spike as he makes his final Game Ball Road Trip stop as the NFL experience opens its doors to the public. Spike will march into the theme park, then spend the day with fans at his very own Game Ball Road Trip booth. Visit the booth to see photos from each of his stops, get a glimpse of the official Super Bowl XLII game ball on display, and take your own photos with Spike. |
Spike will be making appearances at his Game Ball Road Trip booth each day that the
theme park is open to the public to take pictures and sign autographs for fans.
This is the final chance to meet the Host Committee's Team Captain, Spike, on his Game Ball Road Trip! |
